  • A short history of language and script of the World

Language and Script are main foundations of education. Both of them are outcome of human culture and civilization. They are constructed rather than given continuation of ancient age.

This paper will focus on three historical aspects of language and script. They are:

(1) Evolution of language and script
(2) Transformation of language and script
(3) Extinction/destruction of language and script

1. Evolution of language and script
When we talk about the birth of language, we have to talk about two things: the Chimpanzee, our ancestors, and the Africa. The first Homosapins lived in Africa 700 million to 500 million years ago as our first ancestors in the form of Chimpanzees. Other Chimpanzees also developed and separated, in the evolution of time, in different species. Later on, our ancients divided in two divisions: Autoalopithecus and Homopithecus. Autoalopaithecus, distributed in the southern area and gradually started to walk with two feet after 4.1 million years later. Inspite of their walking with two feet they were not able speak languages, scholars opine.

In the evolutionary process they developed to Homohabilis 2.4 million years ago. They stretched far and wide. They easily learned to make stone pots and learned to utilize fire, also Homohabilis are the fist creatures to use and utilize fire. Homoargaster species developed 1.6 million years ago. Though there was similarity of structure of organs between Homohabilis and Homoargaster, speaking organs were still lacking in them. Homoereatus, developed around 400,000 years ago, were our first ancients who could speak only some behavioral words. From Homoerectus developed Homoaspiens, 300,000 years ago, and Homo Neanderthalensis 330,000 years ago. Present humans are found to have developed around 150,000 years ago. From Homo Neanderthalensis onwards, it is found to have spoken difficult names and words. Thus it is found that it has been around 300,000 years humans started to communicate in words, clearly. But new scientific research may alter the information. So we need to be open to new research and findings.
