  • Food and Beverage of Sherpa People

The food and beverages of the Sherpa people are as follows:

  1. Gruel of ‘Champa’ (dust food of mixed grains) in the morning
  2. ‘Sen’ (Semi-Solid food) in the afternoon
  3. ‘Syakpa’ in the evening
  4. Light food in salt taste, and tea, and ‘Chayang’ (local alcoholic item)
  5. Any food item, such as snakes

Special food items are: ‘Thukpa’, ‘Momo’, ‘Potato bread’, ‘Rilduk’, ‘Towa’, and ‘Pakril’, etc. ‘Thukpa’ and ‘Momo’ are taken as common food items.

Nowadays, lots of Sherpa people have left taking ‘Champa’ in the morning and have started taking tea and other common items in morning snakes. Old people prefer the gruel of ‘Champa’ even these days. ‘Champa’ of the village is available in the homes of Sherpa. This is a brief explanation of the food and beverage of the Sherpa people. We will cover this topic in detail in the next editions.
