Kinline of Sherpa

  • Kinline of Sherpa

In the historical era, Awalokeswor Buddha was born in the Bhot of the Himalayan region of Tibet. There were six ancestor brothers: 1. Semu 2. Dong 3. Tong 4. Da 5. Tu 6. Te. Respected guru Sange Tengin Rimpoche, in his book ‘Snow Light of Everest’, mentioned that Sherpas are descendants of Dong Kinline.

In the book written by Chawkpon Sange Paljyoe about the history of Sherpa, it is found that from Dong Kinline, four castes developed. They are:

1. Ngdak Yung Ngima Oser of Serapa
2. Dupchen Thangtong Gyalapo of Takthow
3. Terton Ratna Lingpa of Chawa
4. Phachen of Thimi Salaga

Although there were four Kinline, which are Miyakpa, Thimi, Serta, and Chawa, at that time, as they migrated to the Solukhumbu region, sometimes there developed sub-castes like Lama, Taktho, Golek, Yulkongma, Pinasa, Chawa, Salaga, Goparma, Khampache and many more.

We have been residing across the globe in spite of our lesser number. For the exact identity of us within Sherpa, we need to write our specific caste before Sherpa. For example, Sange Tenjin Gole Sherpa, Sange Tenjin Chawa Sherpa, Sange Tenjin Lama Sherpa, Sange Tenjin Khampache Sherpa. It clarifies that Gole, Chawa, Lama and Khampache are caste.
