The main profession of Sherpa in the past was Yak, horse and sheep rearing, and weaving local carpets as they live in the high altitude of the Himalayan range. Sherpa people also do cultivation of potatoes, barley, millet and wheat. Later on, they descended down to hilly areas and started to cultivate paddy, maize, and others. Nowadays, Sherpas are well established in the carpet business, construction business, travel business and tourism. A lot of Sherpas are engaged in all kinds of worldly professions and also in politics. A significant number of Sherpas are residing in the cause of migration in various districts to various big and small cities throughout the world. Our community is dispersing for a better life and good income rather than their interests.
